HFPD Teaches Practical Use of Science to Conner   Lt. Tony Crouch taught a day in Mr. Hall's Science class at Conner Middle School to show students how we at the fire department apply what they are learning in the classroom to real life.  Discussed in the class were subjects like the properties and state of water and Newton's Third Law.  Math formulas we use to figure nozzle reaction, rated GPM for nozzle size, and friction loss were also shown to the students.  The end of the class was spent with some hands-on evolutions letting the kids hold the hose line and spray some water to apply the third law of motion that "for every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction."  The class was developed by Lt. Ellis to help the department get more involved with the schools.  This is the second year that we have taught the classes.  Lt. Crouch is teaching a total of 10 different classes this year.

HFPD Honors Local Business, Employees for  Saving Life   On Tuesday October 30, 2007 employees at ZF Boge Elastmetall located on Aviation Blvd. were honored with a "Partners In Life" award for saving a co-workers life.  One of the workers at this business recently suffered a heart attack at work and went into full arrest.  Workers at the business immediately began CPR and placed an AED on the patient saving his life.  The outcome would have been a lot different if these coworkers had not began these life saving procedures immediately.  This incident highlights the effect that quick initiation of CPR and AED can have on a sudden cardiac arrest patient, of which 95 percent die before reaching the hospital.  Congratulations to the employees at ZF Boge Elastmetall for this life saving action.
