BACKGROUND

Hebron Fire Protection District has hosted an annual EMS Refresher since 2004. Originally, the refresher existed to provide local EMS personnel a way to meet continuing education and recertification requirements, and was attended by less than fifty personnel. Steadily, the refresher grew year after year, eventually requiring us to utilize an online streaming platform to deliver the content. Last year, our refresher was attended by over 550 EMTs and Paramedics, predominantly from the Cincinnati Metropolitan Area.

Our goal has never been profit. Instead, we intentionally keep registration fees as low as possible so the event remains cost-neutral for the district. We recognize the responsibility that comes with educating such a large number of providers, and this year, we are continuing to make significant investments to attract high-quality speakers and deliver the best educational experience possible. This is where you come in!

STRUCTURE:

Our EMS Refresher will provide 6 CEUs per day. Each speaker will have a one hour block, and students will receive a 15 minute break after each speaker. This allows speakers to have a full hour of instruction, and allows for a buffer, should your lecture go over by a few minutes. Speakers can speak virtually via our streaming service, GoToWebinar (or equivalent platform), or can present in-person (preferred) at our fire station located at 3120 North Bend Road, Hebron, KY 41048.

Speakers will be compensated at a rate of $200/hr. Speakers may only be awarded a maximum of three speaking slots, with the third slot being compensated at $199.99/hr., limiting total possible compensation to $599.99.

To meet NCCP 2025 requirements as established by the NREMT, speaker topics must fall into one of five categories. The categories are: Airway/Ventilation, Cardiology, Operations, Trauma, and Medical. Within each category are acceptable class topics. They are as follows:

Airway/Ventilation:

Ventilation, Capnography, Oxygenation.

Cardiology:

Post-Resuscitation Care, Ventricular Assist Devices, Stroke, Cardiac Arrest, Pediatric Cardiac Arrest, Congestive Heart Failure, Acute Coronary Syndrome.

Operations:

At-Risk Populations, Ambulance Safety, Field Triage, EMS Provider Hygiene/Safety, EMS Culture of Safety, Pediatric Transport, Crew Resource Management, EMS Research, Evidence Based Guidelines.

Trauma:

Trauma Triage, Central Nervous System Injury, Hemorrhage Control, Fluid Resuscitation.

Medical:

Special Healthcare Needs, OB Emergencies, Infectious Diseases, Medication Delivery, Pain Management, Psychiatric and Behavioral Emergencies, Toxiciological Emergencies, Neurological Emergencies, Endocrine Emergencies, Immunological Emergencies.

10% of our instruction hours need to be pediatric specific. If you would like to teach a topic specifically related to pediatrics, please ensure you note as such.

If your class doesn't exactly fit into one of these topics, please still continue with your proposal, and we can see if we can accommodate it.

TIME SLOTS:

All categories will be covered each day for at least one hour. Please find our tentative schedule listed below, as well as the topic category we have designated for each hour. We have some flexibility in moving these spots around, so if moving a time slot would better accommodate your schedule, we're certainly willing to look at it!
